Acronis vmProtect: Recovery of Mailboxes or Mailboxes Content Fails

 The following should be checked before starting the backup & recovery of Microsoft Exchange virtual machine with "Application-aware" option enabled:

1. Check if the Microsoft Exchange version is properly supported.The supported versions of Microsoft Exchange: MS Exchange Server 2003 SP2+, MS Exchange Server 2007, MS Exchange Server 2010, MS Exchange Server 2013 (backup and restore of databases ONLY).
2. Extracting MS Exchange databases located on Windows dynamic disks (LDM) is NOT supported. 
3. Note that while vmProtect 9 is not a cluster-aware software, it is still possible to perform Application-aware backups of Exchange cluster nodes (Exchange 2003 SP2+ versions are supported). During the backup Acronis vmProtect 9 can back up the Exchange databases available for the specific VM (node of Exchange cluster) at the given moment of time. While there are many different types of Exchange clusters (SCC, CCR, DAG) which all have their own specifics, the main thing you should ensure is that the Exchange databases data is actually accessible from the VM you are backing up with “Application-aware” option. The same approach applies to transaction logs truncation option – they will be truncated for the accessible databases only.
4. In order to restore the Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes and Mailbox Content the backup up virtual machine should be mounted. Please check that the the options are properly specified in Configure -> Restore Settings -> Exchange Settings 

If all steps above have been executed and issue still persists, go to error troubleshooting step.

In order to localize the problem please perform the following steps:

1. Check if the virtual machine with Microsoft Exchange server can be properly started from the backup using Run VM from backup operation. Try to run it using the same settings as set up in Configure -> Restore Settings -> Exchange Settings. If it fails to start then try to run it on another host and datastore.
2. If the virtual machine can be properly started from the backup then check if it runs correctly and check if the database and transaction logs are available in the correct path. In order to do that the user should log in to the mounted virtual machine and check if all the data is properly accessed.

If all steps above have been executed and issue still persists, go to collect information step.

Collect following information and contact Acronis Customer Central. 

1. The screenshots of all the steps you perform to recover the data.
2. Reproduce the problem and collect the debug logs that can be collected using the steps described in the Acronis vmProtect: Collecting Debug Logs for Virtual Appliance and Windows Agent article.
3. The detailed information about Microsoft Exchange server that is used:
1. Microsoft Exchange Server version and build number;
2. the information where database and transaction logs are stored;
3. if it is a cluster environment then the information about the cluster and if it is active or passive node.
4. Fresh Acronis System Report from the original virtual machine that can be captured using AcronisInfo utility.
5. The full backup of the virtual machine with the database if it is possible. This backup can help us to reproduce the problem in our local environment that can increase the speed of resolution.
6. If the problem appears during the attempt to extracting the .exe file that should be downloaded during running the Restore E-Mail operation then the following information should be also captured:
1. the .exe file that cannot be properly opened
2. Acronis System Report from the system where the problem running the .exe file appears. The report can be captured using AcronisInfo utility.
